Theory + Application (T+A) has launched its first pair of headphones, and it goes for an astounding price. The German brand injected all its audio know-how into these cans, which definitely reflects on how much it’s asking for. T+A, which is known for high-end audio equipment, went all out with the Solitaire P and its over-ear planar-magnetostatic design. The company claims it uses only the highest-quality materials for these cans, and rightfully so. One look at the price tag and you’d expect only the best.

As Premium as Premium Gets

Retailing for a staggering £4,800 (~USD$6,305), the Solitaire P doesn’t hold back any punches. The frame features aircraft-grade aluminum while all the cushioning is aided by soft leather. In addition, T+A prides itself in the use of drivers that produce some of the best sound quality around. The audio specialist also makes it clear that the legacy of its Solitaire series carries onto these headphones. From flagship loudspeakers, T+A now has headphones that slot into the brand’s 41 years in the industry. T+A is proud to say that these headphones were developed by a mix of young engineers and experienced physicists. Of course, all of them share a deep passion for music, making the brand’s first attempt at headphones a memorable one. It’s important to note that the Solitaire P is hand-made in Herford, Germany — further justifying the premium price. Other than that, T+A hasn’t offered much info in terms of specifications, but we’re sure to learn more once it hits shops in a couple of months.

The Perfect Audio Complement

To complement this fine pair of headphones, T+A is also launching the Solitaire HA 200 headphones amplifier. It retails for £6,600 (~USD$8,670) and contains a lot of the high-precision engineering found in the Solitaire P. T+A explains that all three headphone outputs can be fine-tuned for each user’s preference. Additionally, its power supply owns two separate toroidal transformers; one is for digital circuits while the other handles analog. Finally, there’s a healthy selection of ports to enjoy: two analog and six digital inputs for a total of eight. Those who’re interested don’t have to wait too long. The headphones will ship in March 2020 while the amp will become available beginning April 2020 in the UK.
